5 Fandom Friday: Favorite Droids

Hey Epic Geeks,

I’m a day late, but not a dollar short. I just am a complete procrastinator and a busy one at that! Either way, it’s not so much about WHEN it’s posted, but what I post, right? Today’s 5 Fandom Friday topic is all about droids and let’s just say, this it really hard to narrow down.

My first mention is actually from the new movie Passengers. I plan on doing a whole review of the movie because let’s just say there is a lot to say. UK’s Michael Sheen did an amazing job playing this android bartender, Arthur. One of my favorite quotes was, “Jim, these are not robot questions”.  Arthur is fully aware that he is not a human and he has no real feeling or emotion, though he plays that supporting bartender perfectly. He was the friend that everyone needed even if he takes ever word too literally …

K-2SO from Star Wars: Rogue One is also one of my favorite characters I’ve seen in the past few months. Though he does have some characteristics of C-3PO, I definitely think he’s his own character. K-2SO, played (motion capture) and voiced by Alan Tudyk, won the show with some amazing quotes, including, “Did you know that wasn’t me???” and “There is a 97.6% chance of failure”. Thanks K-2SO, we really needed that pep talk.

This next one is a villain from Doctor Who, The Clockwork Droid. I really enjoyed this episode. If you can’t place the episode, it’s The Girl In The Fireplace. I love masquerade masks, so even though this episode can be really creepy if you think about it, this villain (and droid) cannot be overlooked!

I’ll keep on with the theme of giving a quote:

I’m totally counting Bastion as a droid. If you don’t know this wonderful character, he’s a hero you can play in Overwatch! I enjoy Bastion, though I don’t play him as much as some people. He also has a little birdy named Ganymede that you can’t see in the above picture. He’s adorable.

Last, but definitely not least, is this dynamic duo. C-3PO and R2-D2. These two are just amazing and a major portion of my childhood. Also, did you know C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels actually had to wear the suit? It’s amazing how technology has changed over time and made movie creating so much easier and just overall better! There are many amazing quotes and some of the best are definitely interacting with R2-D2.

C-3PO: Just you reconsider playing that message for him!
R2-D2: *beeps a question*
C-3PO: No, I don’t think he likes you at all.
R2-D2: *beeps again*
C-3PO: No, I don’t like you either.

Who are your favorite droids? Did you forget about any I mentioned? Did I forget any? Let me know in the comments below.

In the meantime, keep calm and stay epic,

Kayla

  • Cool picks! That episode of Doctor Who scared the crap out of me. Those masks are insanely creepy. R2D2 AND C-3P0 are classics. I’d add BB8 into the mix too. 😀

    • The fact that that episode was so great (and scary) just meant I had to add it.

I was trying NOT to have more than one from each fandom but I couldn’t skip R2 and C-3PO

      • I love the episode. I’d completely forgotten about it.

  • Mariah Kaercher

K2SO added some much needed comedic relief in that movie.

    • Yes! Some fans got so upset over how similar he was to C-3PO but honestly, yes, there are similarities, but he wasn’t stepped on as easily, and he was needed. He was a great character and the comedy was definitely needed. <3

  • Heather Marie

I love that you included Arthur from Passengers! My husband and I just watched that movie for the first time a couple weeks ago and we’re still talking about it. Definitely a movie that came out of nowhere and hit me in the feels!

    • It was NOT what I expect. We finally watched it this past week and it was really good, just like we thought it would be … but the trailers definitely didn’t show what the movie actually was … which I think is a good thing! (:

  • I love Bastion! So cute hahah.

    • Me too (:
He’s adorable, even though he can be annoying D<
