Hey Epic Geeks,

This month I finished nine books. This excites me soooo much and I’ll share a little secret… I’ll be beating that number in October. Look forward to some amazing full book reviews and possible a book Youtube (What??? You read that right!). Now let’s hop right in.

Last month, I shared the amazing book “Red Queen” by Victoria Aveyard in my Books I Have Finished (August) post. Of course, I continued the series with Glass Sword and I have to say… people were right… I was disappointed. It really was not as good as the first book and the book could have been so much better.

I’ve been a fan of Zoe Sugg for a while, also known as Zoella on Youtube. I finally read her book Girl Online. Surprisingly, and I mean this in the best way, it was really good. I enjoyed it. The book was a pretty easy read. There were many things I loved throughout and I actually have a post specifically about the book coming up so stay tuned. I’ll link it here when it is up!

I’m going to talk about The Selection Series; The Selection, The Elite, and The One together because they’re such an easy read. I read them within a few days and even though I have conflicting feeling, I couldn’t set the books down. I both loved and hated this series … There was a lot of good … and a lot of bad. I think my biggest issue was that the author could have done so much MORE with the series. There was so much potential to be so much better. America Singer was a really just an, as Katie (kaa Katysxo) said, insufferable protagonist. Let me know if you want a full review on this series (and her follow up series as I’ve read that now too).

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi was pretty amazing. Just think of never being able to touch anyone. One touch basically shatter’s someone’s lifeline or suck’s their energy away. I don’t know how to talk about this too much without giving it away but seriously just go read it. I can’t wait to read  Unravel Me (the second book).

Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier was amazing. I haven’t read Sapphire Blue yet but I definitely wish I had. Gwyneth grew up with her cousin Charlotte training for the time-travel gene. However, turns out, Gwyneth is the who ends up getting thrown into random eras until she finally speaks up and gets to travel with Gideon. Definitely an enjoyable read!

Firstlife by Gena Showalter was one of my favorite books this month. It was so good. There is going to be a full review of this book coming and I’ll link it here because I have way too much to say.  I haven’t read the next book, Lifeblood, yet but I cannot wait.

Last but not least is November 9 by Colleen Hoover. She has become one of my favorite authors because she is just amazing. Basic principal of this story is, a young girl and boy (18) met and wanted to continue living their lives even though they instantly felt this huge connection. Fallon moves to New York to pursue theater but Ben stayed in LA to pursue writing a book on their love story. Every November 9th, they can spend those 24 hours together. Every other day of the year, there is no communication. Colleen Hoover tosses in a ton of twists and turns and all I can say is just jump in and read it because she’s just so amazing. Go. Go find her books and READ THEM.

What are you reading currently? What did you read last month?

Keep calm and stay epic,

Kayla

I’m reading a graphic novel my brother recommended to me titled I Kill Giants? The last book that I finished was Anna and the French Kiss and I wasn’t impressed.

    • I’ve never heard of that graphic novel. Is it good? How are the illustrations?

Oooh, I’ve heard good things about Anna and the French Kiss… though I’ve also heard iffy things like cheating, etc. Mixed reviews I guess. Thoughts?

  • I’m SO IMPRESSED! I read slowly so I don’t think I’ve ever read 9 books in 1 month. I’ve been wanting to check out Zoella’s book! There have been so much controversy over it because apparently it was ghostwritten? Not sure what the exact facts are so I won’t say anything definitively. I love Zoe though <3

    • Thank you! I tend to listen to a lot of audio books at work. Most of those are actually audiobooks but it’s much simpler to say read. Yes, I think it’s ghostwritten but it’s still her ideas and if you check goodreads I’m pretty sure it actually shows the ghost writer, oddly enough. That’s actually how I found out.

      • Yesss I have gotten into audiobooks too! I get them free from the library but since my work commute is really short I tend to have difficulty finding a good time to listen to them. I’ve been falling asleep to short stories by Neil Gaiman these days. I think ghostwriting is fine as long as it’s Zoe’s ideas being put forth. Some people just have trouble organizing a full book.

  • I bought Hoover’s Slammed for Audible and really want to love it but omg the person who narrates it? Her voice is so annoying… I’m going to have to buy the physical or ebook cause I cannot take the audible version! I wish you could return them lol! Reason: “cannot stand the voice, I want my money back!”

    • I’ve not read Slammed yet. I’m really interested though. It’d on my TBR list though. I loooove audio books. I hate annoying narrators. Sooooo disappointing though it gives a flare to certain characters.

Maybe contact Amazon. They should be able to see that you ahven’t listened to it all.

      • Yea you’re right maybe I’ll try that!!!!

        • And I love audio books too. I’m currently reading two books and listening to Outlander (whose narrator is so much better lol!)

        • Worth a shot and hey, maybe they’ll just give you an amazon gift card and then you can buy the book! (:

I’m sad to hear Glass Sword isn’t good. I found Red Queen really enjoyable but I’ve heard nothing good about Glass Sword. D: I recently finished up re-reading The Mortal Instruments series (total YA fluff goodness) and now I’m working through The Raven Cycle (I’m on book 2) and LOVING IT SO MUCH!!

    • I was JUST thinking about re-reading The Mortal Instruments. I haven’t read Clockwork Princess, etc yet and I’d love to refresh my mind of the original series first. I’ve never read The Raven Cycle. Is it good?

      • Kay

I am absolutely loving it! It’s on it’s way to being my favorite YA series. Honestly, the prologue of the whole series in book 1 threw me off (I talk more about that in my review of it) so if you start it, and think it’s not going to be good, just keep reading. I promise it’s nothing like the prologue makes it out to be!

        • Where’s your review? I’ve love to read it or watch it, which ever format it’s in. I love giving books a shot though even if they don’t seem like they should be given one.

  • I need to start keeping track of the books I read each month! Definitely returning to this list when I need a new fictional read. 🙂

    • I keep track every month! I’m currently reading The Lunar Chronicles (on Book 4). It is soooo good. Definitely recommend them. Anything Colleen Hoover is great and they’re all short reads as well.
