Hey Epic Geeks,

I’m a pretty big fantasy fan and I love science fiction but need to read more of it. This weeks topic is bringing in my top five science fiction and fantasy on my “to-be read” list! I’m sure you will know a couple of these, but hopefully I can add some to your TBR as well!

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury is a classic science fiction/dystopian book about a firefighter who burns forbidden books. This has been on my TBR for a long time. I also haven’t seen the movie yet. My mom should be proud! (She taught me to always read the book first).

1984 by George Orwell is another classic science fiction/dystopian I have failed to read! The only portion I have read so far is the first line of the book which has recently allowed me to get a question right on a quiz. From what I’ve heard, 1984 is based in London and the government is watching you. I’m pretty blind in the synopsis, so I’m sorry!

Stray by Rachel Vincent is a book that I read years ago but I feel like I would get so much more out of it now, especially as a writer. I absolutely loved it then but I want to also pick up the rest of the series. This is an urban fantasy werecats series. What’s not to love?

Moon Called by Patricia Briggs is an urban fantasy that’s on my list due to the darling author Leah Chiasson. She’s recommended Patricia Briggs to me so many times that I have to check her out. This is the first book in her series. The main character is a shapeshifter who is raised by werewolves. Definitely excited to pick this up!

A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J Mass is the third book in the ACOTAR series and is finally releasing in May. ONE MONTH! So excited. I have a full review of the first book A Court of Thorns and Roses and a full review of the second book A Court of Mist and Fury. Check them out if you’re curious!

I really doubt this surprises anyone, especially that it’s number one on my list. I was going to add book six of Throne of Glass series too, but it’s been pushed back for the release date again.

What science fiction and fantasy books are on your TBR? All of these books I feel like will help me grow as a writer and I really need to read them ASAP. Let me know in the comments below what you think!

In the meantime, keep calm and stay epic,

Kayla

Fahrenheit 451 is one of my all time favorite books. I was forced to read this in high school, but I really enjoyed it.

    • I was only “forced” to read a couple books and that was for my AP Lang and Comp. Sadly, Fahrenhait 451 wasn’t one of them. I think skipped most of the required lit that a lot of people read in high school because of taking the dual credit (college credit) classes. However, maybe this means I’ll enjoy it even more. Sometimes being forced to read a book ruins it!

1984 is such a great book – you will love it!

    • I’ve heard a lot of great things about it! I cannot wait. Since actually writing this though, I’ve added “American Gods” to my immediate TBR as well as the Diversely booked book of the month (man, that’s a tongue twister) “Empress of a Thousand Skies”.

  • Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury was brilliant 🙂 I loved it. I’m also waiting for the new book of Sarah J.Maas!!! 😀 I need it!!!

    • I can’t wait to read Fahrenheit 451. I’ve heard such great things.

Beginning of the year, May seemed so far away … and now it’s next month! WE NEED TO CELEBRATE!
